The first Pink Day in LA seems so long ago. It started with an idea thought up by a small guild to bring awareness of Breast Cancer and to give gamers the chance to show their support for fighting against it. The event itself lasted only a few hours across three international districts of Lion's Arch. There were no big gatherings or giveaways. Red and silver dyes were given out to players who wanted to show their support by dying their favorite armor set pink. Even for its small size, it was seen as a success at the time.
2008 rolled around and the same guild was ready for Pink Day to be bigger than the previous year, especially with the help of Blade Radio at the time. With the help of Blade, giveaways were had for answering Breast Cancer-releated trivia across a number of districts and the partying and merriment went long into the night. We even learned of a better dye combination was red and purple, and we once again gave out sets of those dyes to those looking to show their support with pink armor.
Sadly, when Pink Day rolled around in 2009, the event was not able to stay up due to guild member numbers dwindling and Blade Radio had become quiet. There were not enough people available to carry on the event, but, it wasn't long before someone came along to give Pink Day a helping hand...
Like a phoenix rising from fiery and fabulous pink flames, Pink Day came to life once more to become something far more than any of the original founders could have foreseen. Thanks to the huge efforts made by Rhonda (M A L I B U Barbie) and the Gaming World Entertainment Network, Pink Day was back, bigger, and better than ever. For the first time, not only did we raise awareness, Pink Day in LA raised over $11,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Even ArenaNet pitched in a little by adding in a NPC that sold players pink dye that was not previously available. The rest, as they say, is history waiting to be made.
